Huntington's Mega-Mall Coming Soon?

Author: Roxi Sharif

The Great Neck-based developer Villadom Corporation has submitted a proposal to build a 486,380 square-foot shopping center next to the Berkeley Jackson County Park in Huntington, NY.

There will be a public hearing to discuss the changes and the mall’s potential impact on the public and the environment on May 17th at 7 PM in the auditorium at Elwood Middle School, 478 Elwood Rd. This proposed project neighbors very closely to the Elwood Orchard property and the building of this mall could alter the preexisting land use agreement, so at the public hearing you can vote on this massive 56 acre project!

Environmental groups and nearby residents are concerned about the commercial center's close proximity to wildlife habitat and open space. That is, citizens are concerned about the detrimental impacts of urbanization and industrial construction that increase traffic, pollute our waterways, and defeat us in our mission to build our island's capacity to be more resilient at large. See News 12 recent report here.

Share news widely and we'll see you at the public hearing, May 17th!
